This tastes much better if you decant it. Then lovely flavours of blackberry jubes and mulberries push forward - against a surprisingly strong tide of tannin. There's a lot to chew on here and we like that. Great purity through the finish, though it needs to be accompanied by a serving of protein.

TOP AUSSIE RED - This is a commendable Barossa Valley red at a very drinkable price. It has coffee and mocha-like aromas and is slightly oak-driven in style but it has pleasing flavour and weight, finishing with a lick of astingency. A value wine. Now to five years. 88/100. Food Barbeque rissoles.

This has been one of my favourite Australian cabernets for many years. The 2004 vintage does the name proud, with rich, intense fruit that’s complex and serious, and very good balance from the acidity. The texture is tangy and even slightly unctuous, but it remains refreshing and clean. Drink it with well-seasoned lamb and other red meats.

In 2005 he has finally achieved a balance between fruit, earth & spice which, on the nose, is identical to the aroma in the vineyard itself. This is the ultimate achievement of a winemaker in search of the exact postcode for his wine.

Medium-plus in weight and showing character from start to finish, this represents very good value. The fruit is well extracted and nicely layered, and it’s paired with well-pitched acidity to produce a texture that’s refreshing and clean on the finish. It’s a natural of grilled lamb and other red meats.
